HK Zoological & Botanical Garden

The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Garden (HKZBG) is located in Mid-levels, on the nothern slope of Victoria Peak and has been opened to the public since 1871. It was previously named as Bing Tau Fa Yuen (Ping Tao Garden). Bing Tau litereally means the head of the soldiers or the Commander-in-Chief.

The Garden has a mini zoo and a very nice aviary, all surrounded by skyscraper apartment housing complexes. The estern park of the garden is known as the Old Garden where a Children's playground, Aviaries, Jaguar Enclosure, Green House and a Fountain Terrace Garden are found. The New Garden in the west is mainly the home of mammals and reptiles.

There are more than 1000 species of plants in the gardens, mostly indigenous to tropical and sub-tropical regions. Aparts from the plants, there are over 600 birds, 70 mammals and 40 reptiles live in the garden.

I've talked to many parents, we all think that HK need to have a zoo to cater the educational needs of the parents and the children. Mr. Tsang, when can we have a Zoo?

Father and son, at the entrance to Green House.

Vincent : 3-year-8-months old; William : 9-months old

I like this white orchid tree very very much. If I have my own green house at home, I would love to plant it too.

See how pretty those flowers are...

I think he was hoping to find some big ants over there...

This plant grows in a very graceful and artistic way.

We have to walk up a slope hill to the Jaguar Enclosure and the Children's playground. The HKBZG is with a highest point of 100 metres and a lowest point of 62 metres above sea level.

A nice greenery background...

One of the aviaries with red flamigoes and cranes live harmony within...

William was so amused of the weird chirpping sounds made by different kind of birds. Not something he would hear in everyday living.

A very beautiful lotus pond. No wonder people said lotus is holly clean though they grow out of sleazy muds.

A giant fountain in the garden, where people would want to buy some snacks and take a good rest here.

Vincent was admiring the fountain.

I think Vincent prefer an ice-cream cone or drumpstick.

Darling William was meeting up with Chow-kung in his dream.

The Children's playground.

William : 1-year old

Orang utan family. If I can speak her language, I would like to have a mother-to-mother talk with her...

Human father and human son...

Vincent and William have the same kind of smile.

When they are not fighting for toys, they are good brothers to each other.

Why Vincent did what he did? Once in a blue moon, he would do something which we will never understand...

My father and mother, they are the most respectable people in my life.

Although HKZBG is a good place to go, I still wish for a Zoo. Come on, give us a Zoo.
